What a Corporate AI Workshop Actually Covers (and What It Shouldn't)
A corporate AI workshop should cover briefing, verification and workflow redesign applied to the team's own live work — not a tour of ten tools. The test of the agenda is simple: participants finish real work in the room and leave with a reusable workflow, rather than a certificate and a list of products.
That is the short answer. Here is what a day that actually changes behaviour looks like, and the three things a good agenda deliberately leaves out.
The failure mode: the tool tour
The default corporate AI session demonstrates a sequence of products. It generates enthusiasm and almost no adoption, because the hard part was never the interface. Teams do not struggle to find the text box. They struggle to know which task is worth handing over, how to brief it so the output is usable, and how to check it before it reaches a customer.
Those three skills transfer across every tool and survive the next model release. Product familiarity does not.
The agenda that works
- 01Where AI pays back here, and where it doesn't. Thirty minutes mapping the team's actual workflows against what generative AI is reliably good at. The output is a shortlist and, just as important, an explicit do-not-automate list.
- 02Briefing. The core skill. A model given a thin prompt returns the statistical middle of the internet; given positioning, audience, the objection being handled and two examples of house voice, it returns something usable. This is prompt engineering taught as a business skill rather than a technical one.
- 03Live work, in the room. Participants bring a real brief, account plan or reporting task and finish it. This is most of the day. It is also where the awkward truths surface — some work is not worth automating, and finding out which is which is much of the value.
- 04Verification. How to check output before it is customer-facing: what the model is likely to get wrong, which claims need a source, and who signs off.
- 05Workflow capture. Each participant leaves with a written, reusable workflow for the task they just completed. Without this step the day evaporates within a fortnight.
What a good agenda leaves out
| Commonly included | Why we leave it out |
|---|---|
| A tour of 10+ tools | Breadth without depth produces recognition, not capability. One tool used well beats six used shallowly. |
| Model architecture and how transformers work | Interesting, and irrelevant to using the output well. It fills time that live work should occupy. |
| Prompt libraries to take away | Copy-paste prompts fail on the first non-standard task. Teaching the briefing skill generalises; a prompt list does not. |
| Predictions about AI and jobs | Unfalsifiable, and it raises anxiety in a room you need relaxed enough to experiment. |
How to tell whether it worked
Not by attendance or satisfaction scores — both are easy to hit and neither predicts adoption. Agree in advance which workflows should have changed, then check at sixty days whether they actually did and what blocked the rest. That review should be part of the engagement, not an upsell.
